English (Zingiber officinale) - Ginger
- Ginger has a long tradition as a spice. It was originally grown in China, India, Malaysia and other tropical areas. For pharmacological purposes, the roots and rhizomes (storage tubers) are used for their active substances gingerol, Shogaol, Zingerone (Phenylalkylketon) and essential oils including zingiberone and zingiberol. Ginger belongs to the Zingiberaceae (ginger) family.
