Description
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is the acetylated form of the sulfur-containing amino acids L-cysteine. It acts as a natural sulphur spring, antioxidant and glutathione precursor. With catalase and superoxide dismutase, glutathione, a tripeptide built up from amino acids cysteine, glycine and glutamic acid, is one of the main endogenous antioxidants. Therefore, it is important for the
- Detoxification, the
- Rejection of heavy metals,
- The immune function and
- Oxidative stress.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine has a higher bioavailability than L-cysteine, which is enzymatically degraded after oral absorption in the digestive tract. The "enzyme-stable" NAC, however, allows the glutation-and L-cysteine levels to rise.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine is well tolerated. The compression increases the stability of the NACs.
